Both are and were home-style Mexican restaurants. Carmen's is greatly missed and thankfully Maria's is still here to provide us great food. I lived in the San Gabriel Valley from the late 60's to the late 70's. Both have a special place for me especially the friends and family that would join us. Make sure you try the house salad dressing along with the rice and beans.
Maybe Carmen's tastes like Maria's! I've been eating at Maria's for at least 35 years. Great family owned business.

To a certain degree yes, but Maria's is a little more authentic like the food I are as a kid growing up in East L.A.
