Indeed, it is not required for salvation, but it is important as it is an act of obedience and celebration following the new birth experience. Repent and be baptized!
Baptism is indeed like a spiritual act that symbolizes the commitment one has made within himself or herself to the lord. The man of Ethiopia,Eunuch of great authority was ministered to by Philip and he believed with all his heart in repentance. The repentance comes first before the physical baptism, read Act 8: 26-40 “Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him.” Acts 8:37-38 Salvation comes from accepting Christ as your personal lord and savior. It’s like what marriage is designed to be. Getting married won’t make you fall in love, marriage is the ceremony to display but the actual love resides in the heart of the couple. Baptism is act of recognition and confirmation which symbolizes the commitment you have made to the Lord with your life.
