No reservations for lunch are needed :)
Never have a problem on weekdays. Nights and weekends, yes, get a reservation.
I would and call and ask before you get there. For 3 it shouldn't be too hard to get a seat and sometimes restaurants only reserve tables for parties of 6 or more.
It gets busy at lunch time, it's usually wise to reserve a seat just to be safe, especially on the weekends.
