It doesn't matter at all. If you can make a tea/tisane with an herb, you can eat the herb. Texturally, it might be odd, but there are no safety concerns. If you are using herbs that you are worried about, it never hurts to look up the documentation or ask an herbalist, but a tea is a tea.
I believe they should be filtered with at least a tea screen
