Im transfering a car from my Sons name to mine. Do I need proof of ins before transfering?

You will need a smog test done within 90 days of the transfer. Title transfers require a recent smog test before hand

you usually do not need that but, call AAA to make sure, also if you have another car with full coverage, your new car should be covered for 30 days.
