I'd say stay local and hope for better. It is a long drive and extremely expensive for very little thrill experience. Unless someone scares easily I wouldn't recommend going there. Or if you really have you're heart set, upgrade to VIP. Maybe they'll prioritize your scare a bit more. But be prepared to pay for it! At $70 a person!
I drove 3 hours to stand in very long lines (over an hour wait for each of the open houses we went in) The open houses were well done but not very scary. The kids had more fun with the batting cages and mini golf than the haunted houses.
Paying the 65 for the VIP ticket is NOT worth it. All it does is cut your wait time in line. The scare is still the same. If you go, get there EARLY, is my number one recommendation. I personally thought the hayride was pretty good. I can appreciate all the time it must have taken to set it up. But I did hear many say they were disappointed.
