Paradise Pier is the least expensive Disney Hotel. Bite the bullet and test yourself.
I just stayed at the Red Lion last night. It's about 2 blocks away from Disney so it's walkable, IHOP is next door and there's a 24 hour Walgreens on the corner. I paid $98 for a Single King Room and you can leave your car parked until midnight after you check out. Everything was very nice and clean and the rooms are indoor. I've also stayed at the Camelot Inn recently, it's directly across from Disney. I paid about $220 taxes, fees, and parking for 2 cars included. It was a Suite Room that sleeps 8 people - 3 queen beds and a pull-out couch.
You need to book rooms around the park in March. Now rates are insane
Most of the hotels close to the park are clean but reasonably priced is hard. I would get as close as you can afford to get to the park.
