Is it possible to access the park at any time? I want to come early for a hike but the website says the gates open at 8AM. (But looks like others have been able to come in for sunrise hikes).

I've been there prior to 8am on weekends and the gate was already open and we paid using the kiosk, but there is also some street parking outside that is free

The park has many trailheads around Mullhulland with free parking, you can go anytime. The official parking lots might have more stringent hours.
