Never knew it was rumored to be...
There was a fictional story published in 1899 about a girl who apparently died (disappeared) in the lighthouse and so she was assumed a ghost. Her name in the story is Muriel Trevenard. I picked up this story and brought it into our own time. The novel is called "The Lighthouse Ghost of Yaquina Bay," and it is available on Amazon and at the gift shop there, novel by Alexandra Mason.
No, it was only in operation for two and a half years and no one died on the property.
