Chanute was a training base in illinois for aircraft maintenance. The air force wasn't born until 1947 however I have heard stories of how the base use encompass matc and covance stretching several stories deep for some type of testing when it was an active duty base dating back to WWII. So unfortunately I do not have any more information but sounds like a good possibility.
