Yes, every movie I have bren unable to attrnd after buying tickets online have been refunded.
They may offer you a pass for a later movie or showing at another day and time. I know the Marquee Theater in Toms River does. No refunds just a use later pass.
If you cancel your tickets prior to show time, I think it may be possible to exchange for another show or even get a refund. But the refund may not be for the full amount. I would call the theater for the policies for tickets ordered online. Also, if you are a Stubs member, I would ask if the policies are any different.
