The colder the gulf of Mexico is the more manatees will head up the river to the warmer water near the energy plant. We only saw a couple the day we went in early January. The later in January and earlier in February will probably be the best times to see them. We heard that there can be insane numbers of them there during that time.
I was there over Christmas. I saw about 6 manatees. A mother with her baby was on the shoreline. The volunteer there told us there would be 100s of them there in Feb.
We were there yesterday and there was a group of about 7 playing in the lagoon. And several others just swimming around.
