People go to church on Sunday so there's no one to shop that early
For people who attend church..
The majority of shoppers do not venture out early on Sundays to shop. Statistics show they: sleep in, go to church, or have Sunday breakfast/brunch with family or friends. Therefore, it was not lucrative for shops to open and pay enployees, when business didn't "pick up" till noon or after.
We are in church till 11:00
