At the end of my husbands stay when checking out. His room Bill had a spot for a tip(which he filled out) just wondering if this is typical at nicer places? If so should he be tipping 20%? He wants to go back😀

Yes! At least in my opinion it should be. Especially if the room is clean and the service is good!

Never heard of such a thing and we have literally stayed at hundreds of hotels all over the country! I feel it's just people wanting something for nothing. Even restaurants we have ordered from do the same thing now, ask for a tip, before your food is made. A tip is thankfulness for quality product or service. It's not mandatory. At a hotel I would tip room service, the bar, restaurants. But, I will not tip because my room is clean! It's supposed to be. I would not tip the desk person because they were nice. They are supposed to be. Ultimately tipping is your choice and if you feel a tip is deserved, tip. If not don't.

We always leave something, but 20 percent is way too much

Tipping is a nice way to show appreciation but it would not be expected to be 20% for a hotel. That high of a percentage is typical for a restaurant. With hitel prices being much higher I would suggest a dollar amount, $10 or $20.

Yes he should! Especially at the Ashley Inn! That place is awesome! My wife and I spend every anniversary at the Ashley! And the people that work there are fabulous!
