I think Walmart is still competing with other local chain stores, i.e. Aldi's. Instead of price matching they just lower their prices.
Because they bought there own diary plant. That's why they did away with Dean's milk and diary also I asked a worker at Lagrange, KY. Walmart. Thats wht they told me. That way they eliminate any competition.. Smart hu!! That's wht ya do!!
Any answer to your question from the general public is likely to be nothing but speculation. Anyone affiliated with the store wouldn't likely answer your question. So, that being said, here is my speculative reply: Free market price competition.
KY unlike many other States doesn't have a Dairy compact with minimum price controls. It's an easy loss leader for them to get people in the doors. They know very few people will buy just milk.
Because they want to sell their milk. Walmart wants to sell their milk and they can mark it down. They usually do it when it's about a week from the sell by date
Compete with other stores... For $2.20 a gallon I'll take Deans milk from Doller General... Taste much better.. Think Ollies and maybe Meijer has cheap milk... Walmart's excuse
Though the other brands are more expensive than the great value, they are cheaper than usual also. There's a milk overage in the country so selling milk cheap is better than wasting it. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Oh I'm enjoying it. Growing kids off mine love milk ... Go through about 6 gallons a week
Lots in stock! Enjoy while you can.
