You have to purchase either the year pass which is like $33 or the day pass which is currently $9. Otherwise you cannot get into the park to see the lake. Good thing with the day pass though, if you visit another state park within that same day you can use the pass to get in and not pay for another day pass.
The year pass for Michigan residents is $16... not sure if they have another option... I just bought the pass... it's good at ALL Michigan State Parks!👍
