The best of bestwesterns in my book pretty sure it's before 12 hours of the reservation no cancellation fee. Just give them a call good people!
If you made your res directly with the hotel (recommended), you can cancel for free up to a day before.Even if its same day, they are the most accommodating people I've ever met...call 'em.

I'm guessing that it's when you wait too long to cancel the reservation. Most hotels will charge you if you cancel within 24 hours of when you are supposed to be there. Some are more lenient.
