Not 100% sure. If I had to guess it's because of fees and taxes applied to running credit cards. Not to mention equipment cost, service cost, and legal constraints. It's the reason why an outlet store I worked with went 10years without credit cards until they recently started using them. Credit cards are a convenience for the customer not the company.
They love the Yuppies!! That is not the reason. It is done to give the down home feel. Great food and basic living!!
