There are almost 5000 wild horses here. The stay around the dunes and beach houses in the mornings.

4x4 back in the sand roads behind the dunes are a good place to find the wild horses if they aren't on the beach. As stated before AIR DOWN 😀

There are also tours to take people out. You can even get one from the Wild Horse Defense Fund folks who manage the herd. Either way, I would encourage you to donate to them as it is costly to ensure that the horses are generally well and can continue to live wild rather than being rounded up and penned like other herds have been.

The road to the beach is paved. From there, you either need a vehicle with 4x4, or to get into one of the guided tours of the area (that use trucks). You'll be driving or riding on the beach and dunes either way so be prepared. :-) It may be a bit chillier than you expect if you're in the open back of a truck, so bring a jacket. It's absolutely worth it, though. If you have the chance to go, you should definitely do it.

You can only see the horses while on the beach

No, 4x4 need and air down your tires to 15, 20 lbs of air. Drive on beach. You may need it permit between Memorial Day and Labor Day

There's a paved road to the 4x4 beach access. You'll see the wild horses on the 4x4 beach. It's such a beautiful sight!
