They didn't close down, they were purchased by a new owner who is renovating the space, but keeping it's personality. New owner is a client of mine. Close to being done with renos.
This is a real tragedy. I have been going to Stairwell's since I was a undergraduate student 30 years ago. I depend on it as a place of study and refuge with cool people. It is the only place in Cincinnati like it. I hope it reopens soon.

I have no idea but movies are filmed there occasionally so maybe they were involved with that. Lisa never mentioned they were closing.
On 1/5/18 there was a sign saying they're closed for maintenance with no anticipated reopen date listed. There were also newspapers over the windows.
