I've been twice, during weekdays, and both times there was a wait a the door - we ended up at the bar, since we didn't have kids. I'm sure that there are some nights that are not busy at all, but I wouldn't chance it if that's really where you want to go.
Ya peak times is best to do reservations, but there pretty good on turning tables if you just walk in without one..
