I noticed at least a few people concerned about being able to be armed here. Are there safety concerns in the park? Are there statistics regarding drug activity, missing persons, or assaults in the park or surrounding area?

Most of the questions about weapons are from people just interested to k ow what the policy is. We don’t have any of the issues you described. Perhaps the user that suggested concern for wild animals like bears has the right idea but we have had no attacks there either. Virginia permits open carry and concealed carry to permitted individuals. Hope that helps.

There have been a few bear sightings so I think that is the main concern. But there are posters up for how to react when a bear is spotted and most of the time they just want to get away from you...
