Hi Sierra! Valley Pike Farm Market not a farmer's market in that they have roadside stand produce items, though they do stock locally produced butter, milk, lettuce, etc. They provide an outlet for local cottage industries that are underrepresented and do not have access to storefronts, i.e. locally grown and produced jams, nuts, bulk foods, beverages, and local craft wines and beers. They're definitely a happy mix!
As the others have said they arent in the aspect your thinking. Have you tried the one at the verona goverment center wensday 12-5, and there is one in Staunton across from pufferbellies Saturday mornings. There are some in Harrisonburg and Bridgewater, i just don't know the details.
This not a farmers market, more of a upscaled food court. There is a few food trucks in the parking lot selling a choice of fare from burgers, mexican, to bbq. I have eaten from each and can testify the food is top notch. Inside the building you will find a coffe shop, sandwich shop, beer, ice cream, and assorted hand made goodies. There is seating, both inside and outside the builfing. Keep in mind on rainy days seating is limited as the outside tables are not sheltered.
Not a lot of local produce, but a great place nonetheless. There is a produce market in front of the Shenandoah Heritage Market, south of Harrisonburg on rt 11. It is between exits 240 & 243 off I-81
