Clackamas Women's Services turned me and my two small daughters away when we were desperlately trying to escape our abuser. We were told that because he lived in Clackamas county, we could not stay in their shelter for safety reasons. So who are you helping if not the women who live Clackamas County with their abusers? I guess what I'm trying to understand is how your organization can morally accept funding from the state or donations meant to help our most vulnerable women and children, while turning away your most vulnerable women and children. I made it very clear to the intake worker that I was currently his live in aide and was being beaten with various objects and my kids were being emotionally degraded and screamed at. Our abuser is mobile and cannot commute because of health reasons, which I also made very clear to the intake worker. I do not recommend Clackamas Women's Services to anyone who lives in the county and actually needs help out of an abusive situation. **EDIT** Making this edit since you want to comment with half an apology. This was in the beginning of February that we applied, pre-COVID. And we qualified, we were told we qualified from your intake worker and that there was one available spot at the shelter. Her words verbatim were "I'm positive you qualify, I just need to get my supervisor's approval." Then she called us back and said nevermind because we lived with our abuser in Clackamas County. Please, explain to me and help me understand how that disqualifies me to stay at your domestic violence shelter. Thanks for the apology, but it doesn't make sense and it doesn't help my family stay safe.

The Clackamas county sherrif 'liason' or whatever her title is, was no help. My ex had a long history of domestic violence, but he got the kids & was still abusing me while the kids lived in filth & Followed me to 3 different dv shelters. She informed me my ex wasn't committing crimes even though he would toilet paper & egg my van..twice at a 'secret location shelter & caught me at the grocery store & hit my head with his van. This entire dv system sucks. Go through Multnomah county shelters...at least the employees helped keep us safe. Took me 8yrs but finally beat the system & overcame dhs & their goons too. I have the kids 100% & he finally is only allowed2 hour supervised visits. Don't give up, but be careful who you talk to.

I had brought a senior there and the staff did not help her at all. She was told one thing over the phone and much more different than in person. It was an all women staff. The establishhment was peaceful. I believe in helping people to the fullest of your ability. This establishment did not do that.

I've wasted a lot of time and resources waiting for help here that never came or that I had to fight them to get. Yes, there the place you go to get a Domestic Violence grant. They will tell you the money is for anything you need to keep yourself safe, but you'll fight like hell to use it and they'll let you sleep on the streets or your car before they give up those funds. They'll tell you you'll need that money to get into a place. But, they only give you 45 days to use the funds. Most likely it'll take you longer to find a place and you'll lose the funds before you ever get to use them. They would only give me 2 regular bus passes that they mailed to my homeless, in hiding self. But, I spent 3 days sitting in this place wait for help filling out restraining order papers after my ex tried to kill me. I finally went to the Gateway Center in Multnomah County where I was given several bis passes, grocery store gift cards and was told I could fill out my restraining order online and take it to Victims Assistance to have printed.

Questions & Answers

Does this women's shelter accept clothing donations?

I'm not sure. They have many entities represented under the one roof so it seems logical. I would call them first, or just go there. If they don't take them other social and human services resources are right around the corner and the receptionist may suggest a few places.
