I tried desperately to have a representative assist me in a dispute with Mia Athenas, a VA Chapter 31 counselor who was refusing to provide counseling and advice on my vocational goal of becoming a social worker. My previous counselor had been terminated for being under the influence of intoxicants while performing his duties so I was transferred to his supervisor. Not only did she cancel the masters program required but used my criticism of her horrible performance to put me up for reevaluation. This caused a disruption in benefits. The loss of $6000 in housing stipend, $3600 in Pell grants, $3800 Oregon State grant and student loans destroyed my ability to house myself. Knowing full well her decision would create this she included in her counseling notes that houseing assistance would be provided. Neither she nor the subsequent subordinates she assigned me to ever performed a single action to make this become truth. Instead after the outbreak of the Pandemic I was notified on Friday at 5 pm ,when classes started on Monday, that they would accept my new goal. Homeless, no computer and no internet they expected me to succeed. They need to change their post of "No veteran should face it alone" to " Maybe we'll show up ,maybe we won't but don't count on it. I don't know who I am most disappointed in the VAwith a rich history of denial of benefits or the DAV.

They helped me with a total evaluation of my old claim that leaded to two conditions missed the first time around.

They only had one person working behind the desk, and he had to field calls, at the same time as he was helping people. He tried to help me as best he could, but I feel that the individuals working there ought to be made aware of more resources than the small purple book they hand out.

I will remain reserved about this organization as I had to call 20 different times over a 2 hour period be for I was able to talk to someone. Their voice mail is not set up and their voice response was so unclear that it took 6 times for me to accurately get their email address off of the recording. The person was nice but if they are able to help I do not know yet. I guess I will see once I get notified that they are accepting appointments.

Call and make an appointment.. Joyce is good for some helps, don't be afraid to ask questions..
Yes I have had to call 5 times to get the email correct. There is no really good time to call them either as they do not answer. I have emailed up to 4 times before I get a curt response. Lol for a group that is expecting dues from us I would think they would be willing to help
Letters from friends and family that knew of your issues which speak to your issues and how they happened and are effecting you currently..
