This hotel has two parts, the original historic building and the new part. We stayed in both parts. They did a great job preserving the historical part of the hotel. However the rooms in the old part are just too historical and old for my taste. I even jokingly said they smelled historical because you literally needed to air the strange smell out. The carpets and furnishing were all too old and worn out for me. Old building I can only give it 3.5 stars. After we moved to the Cabana View, it was day and night. Everything was brighter and moderner and cleaner. You definitely should book a room in the new building, preferably an ocean facing one while enjoying the historical common spaces in the old one. The new building deserves 5 stars. The grounds are nice and the service level is high compared to the one we stayed in Santa Barbara. This hotel is super busy in the high season. If you don’t like the crowd, try to avoid the busy season. I am sure the experience would be a lot less hectic.

First impression is not so good. We definitely expected more for the price especially. Check in was stressful like checking in at circus circus Las Vegas on a free weekend. The rooms are dated, small (which I don’t mind really) noisy and definitely it luxurious. The restaurants on property were packed and the service was non existent. I suggest walking into town for some great food and friendly people. The staff here are not happy to be here and they let you know. I would recommend staying any place else. If you want to walk through the hotel their is nothing stopping you. Just know that you will be with thousands others like Disneyland. My wish is that they hire management that cares about customers in the future. Until then I will stay away.

We just had a great stay at The Del. Our room was in the original building and it was spectacular. No the bathroom wasn’t huge and yes the floor squeaked. This is what makes this hotel great. This place is truly a resort. Beachfront, pristine grounds and all the eats and drinks you could ask for. Yep it is expensive. But worth every penny. Great service and we will be back.

Beautiful hotel and resort. The grounds are gorgeous and they do a lot of things well in terms of aesthetics. I think food options and restaurant accommodations could be better and more diverse; however, there are lots of options in town. Stay in one of the renovated parts if possible for the best accommodations. They don’t provide room service and also do not service rooms, but they do accommodate requests for room cleaning easily. I feel for the cost, a quick room refresh should be standard though. Beach access/amenities and pool ambiance/service were great.

Check out the seals in La Jolla, too
Hilton has it now. Lots of changes, but hopefully they won't change it too much...
Was it room 304 or 3327 its the room 1408 was based on
They were doing some, what I would describe as light construction last week. Nothing major though, IMHO.
The Ghost of Kate Morgan According to the hotel’s book, Beautiful Stranger: The Ghost of Kate Morgan and the Hotel del Coronado, since that time, guests and employees have attested to ghostly goings-on. Most have to do with Kate’s original third-floor guestroom, where visitors have experienced flickering lights, a television that turns itself on and off, breezes coming from nowhere, inexplicable scents and sounds, items moving of their own accord, doors that randomly open and close, abrupt changes in room temperature, and unexplained footsteps and voices. The story of Kate Morgan continues to intrigue hotel visitors, and the room in which she stayed is the most requested guestroom at the hotel Book name is " beautiful stranger"

Shore House at The Del, our new neighborhood of seaside residences located on the southernmost tip of the resort, are nearing completion and are set to open in the fall. Rooms in The Views neighborhood are nearest to Shore House, so if you prefer to not see any type of development work then a room in The Cabanas, The Victorian or Beach Village will be your best option. We look forward to welcoming you!
I read it was Victorian , American Queen Ann style.
No. Take a cab. You can afford it if you are staying here.
I think there is one room that is haunted at the Del but it is an old place and usually placed this old has a ghost or two.
That's a question for the hotel, not people who have visited there, we wouldn't know hotel policy.
Hello Hollyann Hansen - thank you for your question. It's wonderful to hear that your son has been an avid collector of our annual ornament. They get their furniture from a wholesaler that specializes in hotels. You probably won't be able to purchase them.
