True my amazing. Well worth visiting. Very nice upkeep. And history that was passed on. Local history that could easily be lost but thanks to dedicated people in their willingness to keep it alive. A location that is a must stop by. Recommended to you kids and adults to see and learn of the history that is slowly fading.

A great place to see and touch history. It definitely takes you back in history. Worth a visit because it is much more engaging than a museum.

Admission is included in the Maritime Museum admission. This boat was anchored in the harbor to guide boats in. Later supplanted by a lighthouse. It is just like it was when it was on duty. you see where they slept, ate, prepared the meals and played games in their downtime. Lots of descriptive panels of the fuel it needed to keep the light running and all the food they needed to stock up on as storms would prevent resupply for weeks.

The lightship just returned to the Museum after dry dock restoration. There are some things to be completed on board before we can open her back up to the public.

Do they still have a lihgtship at the mouth? I served in Astoria in the mid 60s.

This question piqued my curiosity and I had to research the answer. No, there are no lightships in service on the Columbia River, nor are they in use anywhere else in the U.S. I couldn't find much information about why, but an educated guess on my part is that it is due to modern technology, such as GPS and sonar, being so readily and cheaply available. Lightships are now obsolete.
