I have been visiting Sawyer's Rapids for years and have always enjoyed myself, either using the day use area for fishing or camping at the tent sites. The river views are beautiful and the people are friendly. I have not camped at Sawyer's Rapids since the new owners took over but I did launch my boat there in early June and took a walk through all of the tent sites to see if anything changed as research for future visits. The new owners have divided what used to be five very nice, private riverfront tent sites into ten sites with little to no privacy. They have also almost doubled the price from $16 to $30 per night, giving you half the space for twice the price. Only site 1 has any privacy. At all other sites you can see and hear your neighbors on all sides, the picnic tables at two sites were within 15 feet of each other. Site 10 in particular, was the worst campsite I have ever seen in my life. Very small, the entire site on a slope, overgrown with blackberries and weeds, 6- 8 feet from the tent space in site 9, no level spot for a tent anywhere on the site and the picnic table was so un-level as to be unusable. Additionally, during my visit the Porto-potty by the board ramp was overfull and disgusting. The men's bathroom by the RV area had no toilet paper in two of the three stalls and two of the toilets were clogged and almost overflowing. I highly recommend that the new owners return the tent sites to their previous configuration and even keep their doubled price at $30/night. It would be worth it for the privacy. While the day use area remains a great experience, I do not recommend tent camping at Sawyer's Rapids as currently configured.

It's a small, cramped, very tight RV campground that is a bit seedy and run down. To call this a "resort" campground by anyone's definition would be a big stretch. About half of the sites are taken by full-timers which, of course limits your choices AND while right on the bank of the river, it's also literally feet off hwy 38 so there's no getting away from the sound of full-speed traffic zipping by (many of which are big trucks) though it is mitigated to a degree by the everpresent sound of the rapids. Now to be fair, if you're a hardcore fisherman and don't care about amenities this is a little slice of heaven. On the other hand, if you stay in parks FOR the amenities steer shy of this place. It's very affordable, the area is pretty and I didn't meet a single unfriendly person. NOTE: This Is Not a Place for Families With Small Kids! The river is very dangerous and will sweep your kids away in the blink of an eye! Use caution
