I called to get information on the cost to euthanize one of our dogs. Besides the total cost being ridiculous, they add on a $67 charge for an exam. They said the exam was for their records. I called others who provided me with a much more reasonable amount and they DO NOT have to do an exam. Apparently Banfield feels it is ok to take advantage of people already making a hard decision just to pad their pocket. I will not be taking any of my other animals back to Banfield EVER!!!

They have been very helpful to me, I first time pet owner. The first set of vaccines were nerve wracking for me since I hadn't had experience bringing my puppy anywhere and wasn't sure how scared she would be. They took her back and took care of my puppy and even gave me a photo of her first visit. Staff are great and friendly. The second time I brought her for her shots I was able to talk to the vet about my girl, her breed, things to help improve her anxiety, and what foods are best for her. It was a lovely experience for me to go back with her and have that time for questions and answers. My girl seems to like it now too.

As far as a Banfield goes it's good. Some of the individual doctors and vet techs are amazing and care, but the company does not. And some of the things they must do as required by the overarching company make the location feel cold or less welcoming.

Made an appointment for my dog, for a 12 month proheart injection. Arrived and they didn't have the injection prepared, so they asked me to come back in 3 hours. Poorly planned. Ugh. The scheduling person apparently doesn't know how to do their job, because what was supposed to be just a tech appointment had to become a full doctors appointment as this particular vet hadn't seen my dog in over 6 months. More waiting. More expensive. Ugh. Apparently they were unable to listen to his heart because he was pacing and wasn't letting the doctor touch him. They suggested he be given some sedating drugs so they could do the exam. But then before we left, they didn't give him the sedating drugs. I had to call them to clarify when that was going to happen. Ugh. Lastly, we were there for a fluoxetine prescription (a widely prescribed and very safe SSRI that should cost about $5/month), which they refused to give without doing a $200 blood exam (and they tried hard to upsell me on a "Wellness Plan"). They have my dog's bloodwork from just a hair over a year ago, but apparently they need to charge me another $200 anyways. Not during single step of this did I ever even meet the doctor so I could ask them questions or clarify things. Just receptionists and techs the whole way through. Very impersonal and dispassionate. The total cost would have been about $450, for what should amount to a $112 proheart injection + $5 in fluoxetine. I told them to not charge my credit card, and we won't be coming back again. Bring your business to a local vet that can give personalized care to your pet.
