A great idea is to take the cable car to Roosevelt Island The journey is solved at ticket machines and takes about 10 minutes Great view of the skyline of New York On Roosevelt Island, the walk to the southern tip with a great view of the skyline is worthwhile

Such a nice service. For the cost of a subway ride you can take the Air tram to Roosevelt island. The island has a free bus service you can ride around and around. There are some food and grocery options, a gift shop, park and a pathway you can use to stroll around the island. The ride itself is smooth, and runs at a leisurely pace.

It is open, and all you need is a metro card like what you'd use/need for the regular subway. There are also machines there if you need to buy a metro card as well.

It will take you from the corner of 60th St & 2nd Ave in Manhattan over the East River to Roosevelt Island, where you can walk around or wait for a free red bus to take you around the island.
