Aloft Leawood-Overland Park

Stopped here as part of a longer cross-country road trip. Chose Aloft in KS after staying at Aloft in Omaha and really liking it. Room was not as good as the one in Omaha - it was closer to (but still better than) a traditional motel / hotel room. KS hotel definitely had a much younger vibe (but bigger bar) than the one in Omaha. Four stars because parking, wow, parking. No hotel name sign (that we could see) coming in. The hotel is in a larger shopping town sort of area. Turns out, you have to park in the shopping parking structures. Valets sitting at the entrance, but they are not for the hotel. If you are staying a day or two and want to explore the shopping area, great. If you just need a place to stay overnight during a road trip, maybe look somewhere else.

Sydney Denney

This is a really cool looking, modern hotel. I've stayed here a few times because it's a convenient location. They have a bar and a pool and a pool table. But the pool table cues are old and missing the tips and have been for years. Most of the lights in my room didn't work and I had to climb on top of the desk to fix my window shade so I could actually close it. If they made minor changes, this place would be awesome.

Positive: Incredibly comfortable beds and linens. Good pressure in the shower. Free parking. Nice bar (and friendly bartender). Upscale restaurants and cafe on the block, but also a big movie theater nearby. Negative: The pool was out of service. The room phone was old and broken. I needed to call the front desk to ask about check out time (noon, by the way) and they couldn't hear me when I talked. The light switches were confusing, especially in the dark.

Positive: The location is great. The beds were very comfortable. The bartender was super. Negative: I had to upgrade to a top floor corner room because they were sold out of the cheaper rooms and we got the 5th floor middle of the hotel looking out over a roof. I was told for the extra money we spent we would have a corner room with an overlook.
