Excellent free online course for boating safety

For a well rounded all inclusive teaching tool, this course is very extensive and very good. However, if you are just going to visit the same local lake down the street to fish for a few hours a day and never go anywhere else with your boat, this course is way over kill. When fishing on the same lake down the street which is ONLY intended for fishing and not for swimming, diving, or commercial use, we dont need to know about commercial vessel rules, diving rules, swimming rules, large boat rules, or at least 60 percent of the entire course. It is a very lengthy course 6 parts about 250+ pages and tons of test questions. Although many of the single choice questions seem to be common sense, there are many chapters and questions that just do not and never will apply to the majority of people that just want to fish in a local lake by their house. All the other stuff will most likely never be used and will be forgotten. It would be nice if they could break up the sections into basic knowledge for everyone (equip, safety, emergencies), then have special courses after that for each particular use, fishing, commercial, loading, unloading, diving, swimming, flags, buoys and markers, and so on.... Again if you want to know tons of stuff about all kinds of boating and water rules this is a great course. If you are a weekend fisherman that visits their local lake once in a while to fish, you will be required to learn alot of information that you will never use. I do have to say thank you for offering this course for free, that is a plus. Now i hope it will save me money on my boat insurance. :) Followup: All of this only saved me $4 per year off my boat insurance.
