Truly the highlight of my trip! Fantastic place to stop. The information on salt mining was engrossing and the hands on demos were great!

I’ve been stopping by the Salt Palace every time we go through Grand Saline since I was a kiddo! Make sure to go inside and check out all of the great info! It’s mind boggling that the salt dome sits underneath!

We drove thru town and had a few minutes to kill. We saw the salt palace and thought, could not be all bad if it was about salt. This was a real surprise, a nice place to learn about salt mining in East Texas… This is interesting and the lady working today added greatly to our visit…. If you are in Grand Saline, this place is worth a visit!

Brief visit. I stopped because I have been driving by and didn’t know what it was. It was worth the stop! Some great history, a little science, and just kinda neat. It is small. You shouldn’t plan a whole day or afternoon here, but it is worth stopping by to say hi! You will get a nice low pressure tour, (not of the mines) and May come out being as fascinated as I was. Again it’s a small building, but the knowledge is something that will change the way you think about what is under your feet!

I am not sure why it was closed. But everyone who has time to stop should see this amazing example of what this Earth has to offer.

It is indeed free and they normally will give you a free container of locally mined salt with your visit. Their existsnce depends on donations as surprisingly Morton does not financially support them.
