Hi Marti. Good question! Cataract surgery, and the diagnosis of cataract in your eyes requires one of our doctors to make the diagnosis of cataract and assess your overall eye health. The consultation for cataract surgery is billed to your medical insurance. We accept most major medical insurance including Blue Cross Blue Shield, United, Humana, Cigna, AARP, and Medicare just to name a few. When we bill your insurance, depending on what type of policy you have, typically you will be responsible for a copay and the fee for a refraction which is $40. The doctor will diagnose the cataract, and discuss with you different lens options that you have. Laser cataract surgery is when the doctor uses a special laser to make the tiny cut when removing the cataract. It increases the cost of cataract surgery considerably over the standard method and is not in any way more accurate. We do not use a laser to make the cut, and thus we save our patients about $1000 per eye and still get the same amazing results of clear sight. Call us anytime for an evaluation.
