Dr. Martinez is, putting it mildly, simply the best. Arguably the best prosthodontist in the northern Va. and MD. Expertise and deep knowledge which he has in abundance aside, Dr. Martinez truly cares about his patient, I'm not just another case. I travel an hour or two from Wv (depending on location Ashburn or Reston) to see him.

What is the difference between plaque and calculus?

Virginia Dental Solutions | Apr 8, 2022
Virginia Dental Solutions | Apr 8, 2022

When plaque isn't removed (often caused by a lack of brushing or visiting the dentist for a cleaning), it hardens and turns into calculus. Another word for calculus is tartar. Unlike plaque, tartar cannot be removed by brushing or flossing. It's strongly bonded onto your teeth and must be removed by a dental hygienist. Otherwise, it may lead to tooth decay (cavities) and gum diseases.

Virginia Dental Solutions | Apr 8, 2022

According to the CDC, 47.2% of adults aged 30 years and older have some form of periodontal (gum) disease. While it may seem harmless, especially considering how many people have it, the truth is it's actually very serious. Not only does periodontal disease impact your oral health, but it can also cause or aggravate overall health issues. This includes heart disease, stroke, and more! The easiest way to prevent gum disease is to brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, floss daily, and visit us for routine checkups and cleanings. Contact us to book an appointment.
