Helping a stray goes wrong. Do you know that if you feed a stray, or take them in at all (for example to help tame a feral kitten so they are more adoptable) the shelter considers them YOUR pet and you must pay a surrender fee? So instead of doing what we can to help, we are encouraged to let stray cats and dogs just starve to death. When a fancy new building is built to impress, not actually help anyone.

Adopted a dog at the Garland Animal Shelter on 10.09.22. The facility was extremely clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. My new dog is such a blessing, cannot believe my luck! Also, in October adoptions were free, I did not know that until I arrived there. I had been to several shelters already, just trying to locate the right dog. The GPS I was using directed me down the wrong street, so watch that. It was all worth it. Great place to find a pet.

I visited Garland Animal Shelter at a very difficult time - our dog, who had been a family member for more than 9 years, had a cancerous tumor and it was time to end her suffering. The staff there was caring, patient, helpful, and still able to be efficient. Thank you GAS, for making our traumatic experience a little bit easier.

Usually you always have to pay for an adoption fee and all the expenses of keeping up with the animal.

Do you guys have sugar gliders?

We currently do not. The only time we would have any would be if someone surrendered them to us or one of our officers were to find some in the wild.
