Normally I don’t write reviews, as I haven’t the time. But after this experience, I must. First let me say I’ve been here before about a year ago for a trim, same stylist, no issues. (Not the salon I normally use, but in a pinch, it was okay in the past.) However this experience was not good. I ran in for a haircut over my lunch hour Friday, because I felt it would be convenient, rather then booking an appointment at my regular salon and waiting to get in. When I got there the salon was empty and I was quite pleased that the stylist that had previously cut my hair (a trim then) was still there. She was able to take me and I thought, well good, because this time I wanted a little more than a trim. My hair is long with a natural wavy curl, and I wanted some layers to help my curls bounce up a bit for more body. So she grabs the cape and is ready to whisk me away to the shampoo bowl, when I asked her if we could 1st go to her chair for a consult, so we could discuss what I wanted done. She agreed, so I sat down and we discussed the haircut I hoped for, and a dye. This process took about 10 minutes. She explained that she was not able to dye it at that time, she had an appointment at 4. It was 2:30 when I came in. So I agreed that we could dye it at a later time, and we would move forward with the haircut, with the layers I requested. She washed my hair and started the cut. Shortly after she began, watching her I realized that she wasn’t very clear on what I wanted, and I decided to ask questions as to her plan. She assured me that she was cutting in the layers I asked for. However it was more like she was doing a trim. I wanted some shorter layers for body, and I asked if she could cut layers please, and questioned if they would blend nicely. She told me she could, and that they would blend with no problem. She then began cutting what I could only describe as steps, into my hair, and it was clear to me that she probably hadn’t cut layers since she graduated from cosmetology school. But I patiently sat there and hoped for the best. Later she asked me if I wanted it framed around my face. Well I thought the layers would do that, and I said, yes please. So she pulls the last of my hair, the front section towards the front of my face and begins to frame it at the bottom but with no layers. So now I have this head full of hair, with what are supposed to be layers throughout (not steps) and the hair at the front of my face all one length. The length I came in with!? But since this was not my usual style, I thought maybe this was the way it was supposed to look. After all she didn’t come into my office and tell me how to do my job, who am I to question her on hers. She blew dry my hair and styled it. Upon paying, the salon still empty, I booked an appointment with her for Tuesday for the dye. I thanked her and off I went. Upon returning home and looking at my hair, I realized that this is probably not the way my hair should look, but figured I would ask her to fix it when she did my dye on Tuesday. Then Sunday I receive a call from the manager who told me that the stylist was very uncomfortable with our experience and that they would no longer be servicing me at this salon. What the hell? When I pressed her as to why, she told me the stylist felt it took to long, and probably didn’t produce the best outcome for either of us. Meaning what….that she screwed up my hair and knew it? I told the manager I didn’t understand, but okay. I then rushed off to my regular stylist hoping she had time on a Sunday to fix it. Which she did, and dyed it as well for me. But she was beside herself at the mess Smart Style’s stylist made of my hair, and shocked by the managers phone call and what she perceived as poor and unprofessional service. She insisted that I phone them and ask for a refund for the “awful” cut I received. Well the manager wasn’t in. But I did speak to the same stylist. I was very polite, and asked for a refund, which she said she didn’t think would happen. Really!? I will never recommend this business. Run! Terrible experience!

I have had the pleasure of going to the Smart Style beauty salon at the Wal Mart in Palmyra for the past year and a half. The beautician I have exclusively used is Taylor Lowe. She is very organized, always prompt, and has never missed an appointment. More importantly, she gives the greatest shampoos you would ever want to have! 😊 Last but not least, I have always been more than pleased with the haircuts and styling she does for me. I would highly recommend her service to anyone.

Sent my son to get his haircut. We checked hours online. When he arrived, the salon was closed with shorter hours posted on the closed gate. I sent him back a few days later. I called ahead to make sure they were open and had availability. Yes and yes. He arrived three hours before closing only for the stylist to tell him she was the only one working and doesn’t cut men’s hair. Probably good if you can get a haircut?
