Unfortunately, it wasn't what we hoped for. Our vacation occurred last month during the railroad strikes, and we had to fly back home. I wish we had a heads up about this coming strike, but we only heard about it after arriving at the destination. Our flights had to be booked last minute, which ended up costing me and my husband close to one grand. Because we didn't have insurance, those flights will not be comped. We were supposed to have our railroad tickets refunded, which we still haven't received and they also did not give a timeline for that.

Vacations by Rail was nothing short of amazing to work with. Our consultant, Bridget, was always there for us and a joy to work with. Due to covid, this trip had to be rescheduled twice and had a last-minute drop-out from our party and VBR handled everything (including the accounting) absolutely smooth as possible. The trip went flawlessly and our tour manager, John, keep things moving and all us guests informed of all upcoming events, times and locations as well as having an in-depth knowledge of the local area and history. He really helped make the trip special.

Our Alaska Explorer trip was everything were hoped for and more! My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of experiencing some of the most beautiful sights we have ever seen for an affordable price. Our agent, Eric Hutchins, was very communicative through the entire process, and was able to accommodate every change we wanted to incorporate into the trip. Once we arrived, getting to and from any destination was very easy and stress-free. We truly felt like the trip was carefully planned out and catered for us to have the best experience. We only had the one dinner since it was an overnight trip on the train. If I recall correctly, they offered four choices which all had several courses along with dessert. I had a beef based meal, but I believe there was a vegetarian option and a fish option as well. I didn't hear anyone complaining and we enjoyed our dinner. The meal came with our package. They also consistently offered free snacks and drinks.
