EDIT: It was the tires. So 1 star. I took my sonata in for an alignment and an inspection for a "whomp" sound when I hit a certain MPH. I was told that my cv axle needed replaced, then the passenger front wheel bearing needed replaced, lastly that my front tires were warped. They quoted me over a grand. A friend who does all my major work did the repairs that hilltop suggested (saved a ton of money). The "whomp" was still there. Then I took it back to hilltop because my friend can't do an alignment and told them we replaced the parts. The exact words they said happened on the previous visit were "when it's up in the air it doesn't make a noise but when it is on the ground it does". They scheduled to check it again. Then that night we called my wife's retired dad, a mechanic of 40 years. He said that it can't be the wheel bearing because it should make sound in the air and the ground. Then he suggested it could be the tire band. At my appointment we told them what her dad said. The mechanic didn't understand what he meant. They did the inspection and it was the same wheel bearing making the "whomp". "It could be a bad part" is what they said. RockAuto has never sent me a bad part and by my invoice record, I'm up 50-0. Well a couple days later, I start hearing some grinding noise. **I can't blame either mechanic for this next problem. I'm upset because Hilltop had my car last and didn't do a safety check. My caliper bolt was coming out of my caliper causing that noise and boy was it almost a very bad situation, another few miles and it would have came completely off. Luckily I was close to my friends house and he checked it out. He torqued it tight, no more sound and I checked it last night. No grinding since he torqued it. The "whomp" is still there. Tomorrow I'm getting the questionable tires replaced at a different service because I trust a 40-year mechanic who's also my wife's dad. I'll update this review then. TL;DR Took my car for a "whomp" and an alignment. Hilltop called a couple more of issues to my attention. Got them done cheaper. Took the car back to them for an alignment. They scheduled it. Talked to wifes mechanic dad that night. He said check the tire band. Mechanic at Hilltop didn't know what that was, said it was still my wheel bearing. My caliper bolt came loose and my caliper almost killed me. Friend torqued it tight, good to go. Hilltop had my car before then and should have done a safety inspection. Pretty hard to trust someone.
