During my recent visit to Chicago I was taken to The Green Mill for a night of jazzy entertainment. So great to see such an attentive crowd, that was there to listen to the music and not chatting amongst themselves. It's not that they were a quiet bunch because during the intermission it got very noisy with people discussing jazz and all the great drinks that were available at the bar. Good team of bartenders that were on the ball and where accommodating to such a credit room. Definitely give a 10 out of 10 to the staff delivering drinks through the incredibly packed room. Almost worth the visit to watch them do this. The performer was magnificent as usual according to my friend. Amazing talent! That definitely blew me away. Definitely a must go if you are in the Chicago area and love jazz and blues. Parking is tough, but if you drive around the block enough you will find a convenient spot. Parking is free after 10:00 p.m. on the street.

Loved the atmosphere, came here for my birthday and so glad I did. Spoke with one of the bartenders Jason about our passion for dance and he told me the history of Lindy Hop (I hope I'm spelling it correctly). It was another bartenders birthday and she cheers me with a free shot. We spoke about the history of the bar I didn't know how old the Green Mill was, and which famous frequent guests also ventured there. No spoilers go see for yourself. It was great to meet staff telling stories about their lives and the bar with such admiration. Not to mention the music and drinks top knotch! Being a San Diegan it is a bar I will take the commute, pay a lyft to next time I'm in Chicago.

I can't say for sure but I would imagine that you could approach them. They are all highly skilled professionals.
Yes i felt comfortable alone and i was fifty bar has lots of lights
Like others said, no they don't serve food. But you are allowed to bring your own food here.
Saturdays for the paper machete
No. Old chase lights and shiny tiles.
Cash, first come first seated. Be kind, enjoy!
You will have to check their website but they normally have music Thursday nights.
Get there early. 7-8 is typically ok, any later and it's normally standing room only. It's also cash only.
(Eleven p.m.) SOUL JAZZ NIGHT with the JOEL PATERSON TRIO featuring CHRIS FOREMAN on the Hammond B-3 Organ Grabbed it from here: http://greenmilljazz.com/calendar/ Have fun if you go
It is a 21 and over bar
Yes, but depends on who is playing or the event. They used to have poetry slams and the a musical act after . Not sure if they still do or not.
Yes. They do ID check at the door.
We would have gotten better seats if we got there between 6 & 6:30 on Saturday... perhaps because it was Christmas weekend it was extra busy...we literally got the last table at 7, and it was up next to the bar leading into the big room/stage
Saturdays at 3 PM The Paper Machete starts
One cover
I don't know, but you can go on their website.
Depends on the night. My husband and i went on Thursday night.. for 5pm with single guitarist there was no cover, but for 9pm show (orchestra) there was $8 cover.
Show up early it gets packed quick. No need reservations
Beer, Liquor, and Malort. No food, but plenty of restaurants nearby: Demera, Agami, Fat Cat, Caravan, Silver Seafood, etc.
You will probably have to park a few blocks away and walk
You can take your food from the outside and order drinks inside. I have been tem many times and in some of them I brought my own food and no problem at all.. just be neat and do not leave the place as a trashcan...
You will get in but you might end up not having a table or even a seat at the bar
At least an hour
