Ordered daylilies and received them 8 days after they were shipped. They arrived wilted which is understandable considering they lacked water but most importantly there was mold all over them and they were slimy which was upsetting. I left a voicemail previous to receiveing the package, to express my concern on length of time on receiving them but received no response. Very disappointed, as I have purchased from other nurseries and never received my order 8 days later after shipping. Maybe charge the customer for two or three day shipping or have the option available for a customer to choose the shipping timeframe and view cost associated with the different time frames. Receiving live plants 8 days later is not very good for the plant and or the consumer who paid good money for a product. *Update* the owner claimed they do 2 to 3 day shipping per the response below but when I called FedEx the package was sent FedEx economy ground which can take 2-7 business days to arrive depending where you are located.

Place a second large order for more Daylillies.the first large order went wonderfully. No problems. The second order of which I am still waiting for delivery has been a nightmare. First I sent an email. No response. Secondly I called and got the rudest receptionist ever. I requested to speak to someone else and the Rude employee yelled to the person that she was transferring me to that I said she was rude. She was!!!!! Not helpful all. Rude person advised me that once the shipment leaves their farm they are no longer responsible for shipping, tracking, etc. advised me that I could have selected FedEx for shipment and not USPS priority mail. There is NO spot on the order to choose your choice of shipping. My current order of Daylillies have now been sitting in Knoxville TN USPS Distribution center in boxes for several days. Updates? That is not Oakes Farms concern once they leave the farm! Sounds like lousy customer service to me. Neither of the employees that I spoke to tried to assist me in any way. As of now the shipment is still somewhere in boxes between Knoxville, TN and my home south of Atlanta, GA! Cancelled the order! Daylillies as all plants need water and air! Not suffocating in a box in a mail facility or sitting on who knows where! Think before you order! In my opinion there is no customer service available to you once you place the order!

You can't make all the people happy all the time.......But,I am and am ready to shop again! We built a house about 7 years ago and shopped extensively with Oakes Daylilies. I divided and transplanted some to our new place, and am getting ready to start shopping to create a new Daylily garden at our new house. A bonus reading thorough the reviews is seeing that an old college friend shops here too! Great place and great service!

This was my first time buying from Oakes, and it will be my last. I ordered $189.89 worth of daylilies, which indicated that my bonus plants could total $37.98 (20%). I ordered them in January and arranged to pick them up in April (3.5-hr drive). When I said the date happened to be my birthday, the very nice lady said she would put a "special note" on the order, implying that perhaps they would include an extra one. We picked them up on the day, only to be greeted by a person who didn't even care about us--just got the two bags, handed them to us, and left. The lilies had obviously been placed in the paper bag the day before, as they were already dry and limp, with no wrapping or moisture of any kind. When we got home, I put them in pots with soil and water till the next day, and noticed that one of the bonus plants was missing. I called on Monday to ask about it, and the same nice lady said that I should have gotten a second one, but that the first one I requested (Cameron Quantz) was $30, so I wasn't entitled to a second. When I pointed out that the web site said it was $19.99, she said that was impossible since they didn't have it this year. But when I ordered it in January it WAS on the web for $19.99. She said "oh, yeah", they hadn't updated the site yet, and she would send another bonus. I asked for Spindazzle ($14.99) which she said would be sent asap. Well, if they had no Cameron Quantz, what did I receive that was labeled Cameron Quantz? The extra plant came today, but was labeled Lullaby Baby, even though the packing slip said Spindazzle. What is going on with this place? Every other dayily place has been so friendly and nice, but this place is ridiculous.

Questions & Answers

What daylilles would work on a slope,in san diego cal

len copeland | Nov 3, 2019
Oakes Daylilies | Nov 2, 2021

In your area, you'll want to stick with daylilies that are labeled as being either evergreen or semi-evergreen (you can select for those on our website). Any of those varieties should work on a slope, you'll want to mulch until they get established to try and help prevent erosion or runoff (depending on how steep your slope is)

How tall is the Jamaica blush daylily

It is listed at 25" tall.

what causes buds to deform and the outer petals to become hard and the blooms to be deformed.|? This is happening to several daylilies this year.

Lillian Mashburn | Nov 2, 2021
Oakes Daylilies | Nov 2, 2021

We see some of that kind of thing happening each year, mostly at the start of the season, and just sort of random as to which plants are affected. Since it's not been a very big issue, we haven't pursued the cause, but suspect it's probably weather or insect related (sorry to be so vague). If you did happen to notice a large aphid or thrip infestation, you could try insecticidal soap or a spray, but I suspect the damage will cease (or at least diminish) as the season progresses.

What can you spray on daylilies for white flies??

Rita Smith | Nov 2, 2021
Oakes Daylilies | Nov 2, 2021

We don't have any firsthand experience, but I think an insecticidal soap or neem oil would work, or there are lots of chemical sprays available, anything for use on insects in the garden/flowers should be fine (check the label just to make sure it doesn't happen to say anything about not spraying daylilies, I'd be surprised, but can't hurt to check)

do you still carry Persian Market ?

Do you still have the collector’s catalog? If so please send me the 2021 addition. My name is Linda Nabors 14 Lakeside Cove Crawfordville,FL. 32327

Hi Linda, we did not print a collector's catalog this year, just the regular catalog, but you can see all the varieties we offer on our website, oakesdaylilies.com. Thanks!

When should you fertilize daylilies?

Carolyn azzaline | Nov 3, 2019
Oakes Daylilies | Nov 3, 2019

Typically, Spring is the best time to fertilize, after most of the chance of freeze is past. Some folks will fertilize again in the fall, at least a few weeks before first frost.
