I spent over 8 years in the restaurant business doing everything from chef to waitress, bartender to manager. I was there on a Saturday evening and the place was steady, but I would not call it busy. The service was slow but polite and the food was good. The only reason there are getting 3 stars is because both times i've been there, once with 4 people and the last time with 2 people, there was a 19% gratuity added to the tab which our server did not inform us about. I understand and expect this practice with large parties , 6 or more, but not for all tabs regardless of the number of diners. I find it absurd and a little insulting that this is the practice of Bar Louie. Ill will spend my money at any of the other areas in Royal Oak that are not in the practice of adding a secret gratuity to all tabs.

Poor service. When I asked for a menu I was told it's on the table.. A qr code.. So I asked for a real menu and was told no we don't have any. We also waited about 10 minutes and nobody came by to ask about water or drink. Finally just got up and left and they didn't ask why or acknowledge the wait. The menu looks good and we want to try it. Maybe another day. Edit: so they responded to my review asking me to email them. I did. 5 days later and no response. Seems about right considering our experience in the restaurant.
