If you live in Ames we have Emergency Residence (ERP) over by McDonald's on Duff Ave but you have to get a denial first. The place for the denial is inside our DHS building also by McDonald's on Duff Ave. Another place is St. Thomas Church out on West Lincolnway. Have to call first for an appointment. After you go get the denial they'll give you a list of resources.
