Lots of amazing exhibits. A must see if you’re interested in chess at all.

I'm not a huge CHESS fan but after this visit I will be. This was a wonderful facility with a lot of support from a generous St Louis benefactor. I learned a lot about the history of chess when some of the great matches. During my midweek visit there was a free live Louisiana jazz band playing outside and on the top level another paid live music performance. Definitely worth the visit. After your tour check out the live music or explore the upscale area with many restaurants

Questions & Answers

Would it be interesting for little kids ages 3 and 5?

Dawn Nickell | Jun 4, 2022
World Chess Hall of Fame | Jul 4, 2022

Hi Dawn, kids love our exhibitions and gift shop! While some of our artifacts are chess-historical, many of our sets are playful, which include Super Mario, Star Trek, Marvel, etc. We also have a fun scavenger hunt for kids, and a life-sized chess set and board, too. We're free and open 7 days a week!

I am visiting tomorrow (Nov. 3rd) and was wondering where's the best hotel spots? Also are there places in the area where I can play casual games throughout the day?

Johnny TheDred | Nov 1, 2021
World Chess Hall of Fame | Nov 1, 2021

Hi Johnny, our apologies for the delay. We recommend the Chase Park Plaza, just down the street from the World Chess Hall of Fame and the Saint Louis Chess Club. You are welcome to sign up for casual play at the Chess Club on their website: saintlouischessclub.org

Am I going to be able to find a place to park with a U-Haul trailer attached to my vehicle? We plan to be there on the last Saturday of July.

It's a very crowded square area. You might have to park on a side street. Have fun it was pretty cool. 😊♟

Where to park when visiting this museum?

Robert Sanders | Nov 2, 2018
World Chess Hall of Fame | Nov 2, 2018

Hi Robert! As John mentioned, there are metered parking spots on Maryland Ave, street parking down the block, and two pay lots: one next to Kingside Diner (across the street) or at Schlafly Library around the corner. Please note that we are closed through April 12 while we install three new exhibitions. However, our gift shop, Q Boutique is open, as well as the Saint Louis Chess Club across the street. Thanks!
