Dropped in around 10am today for a chip repair and fairly certain I was helped out by Steven! I had called the day prior and they had availability next morning so that was a great turn around. I had my roommate follow me because I wasn’t sure how long it would take and intended to leave and come back. I ended up sending them home because it took the glass doctor just under 15 minutes to fix the chip and I watched and chatted with him while he did it. Got my windshield here 6 years ago and have had 2 chips repaired by the shop since. I got my first major chip repaired about 2 years ago here and the crack hasn’t spread. Can’t recommend enough for timely, friendly, and affordable service.

In terms of the windshield exchange itself we were very happy with glass doctor- they could accept us the next day (when a few places had already told us that it would take 10 days for our windshield to come in), they switched our windshield quickly and did the job well. The only negative is that when we arrived, we asked if we could watch the switch, to which we were told that we could, from the office. Then once we came back to the area especially to watch the switch, they told us that we could not watch them work. We would have been disappointed but understood if we were told in the first place, but don't tell us that we can watch and then once we come back tell us that we can't!

Ordered a frameless shower door in April 2022. Finally completely installed in July. Supply chain issues were the main culprit. I had to re-caulk a portion of the solid portion of the door, but other than that, I love the door install. It's very functional. My real complaint is the lack of communication. Texts and phone calls are slow to respond to. After speaking with Chris this week, I changed my review to 4 stars.

Questions & Answers

Can you buff scratches out of glass?

Glass Doctor of Missoula | Jun 4, 2022
Glass Doctor of Missoula | Jun 4, 2022

Scratch removal in residential glass and light commercial applications is not a commercially viable solution. Basically, it is labor-intensive and not very successful. Furthermore, if the customer is not satisfied with the result, they are understandably not willing to pay for the time and materials invested by the glass company. Scratch removal and scratch buffing systems exist; however, they are typically only practical in warehouses, industrial, and on larger commercial glass projects. Please call our Glass Doctor office if you would like a more detailed explanation.

Only the bottom section of my window is broken. Do you have to change the entire sash, or can you just change the glass in my frame?

We specialize in glass replacement. We can, in most cases, remove the glass from the frame and install new glass. Your existing window sash will remain.

We are remodeling our bathroom and would like our existing mirror cut down to a smaller size. Can you do that?

Glass Doctor of Missoula | Jun 4, 2022

Most likely. However, if the mirror is glued to the wall, there is no guarantee that it can be taken down without breaking. If you can get the existing mirror off the wall, we will need the mirror brought to our shop to cut down. There is no guarantee that the mirror will cut without breaking either. We cannot be responsible if a piece of glass or mirror that belongs to a customer breaks when trying to cut it, but we always do our best to cut carefully.

How do I know if my glass is a tempered safety glass?

Glass Doctor of Missoula | Jun 4, 2022
Glass Doctor of Missoula | Jun 4, 2022

If you use steam to fog the glass, you will see a tempered logo in one of the corners that shows the glass is safety glass. There are code requirements for safety glass as well. Consult with your local Glass Doctor for those requirements.

Can you replace just one pane on a window?

Glass Doctor of Missoula | Jun 4, 2022
Glass Doctor of Missoula | Jun 4, 2022

No. Each double or triple pane window is manufactured in a quality-controlled environment and sealed carefully to keep air or gas trapped between the panes. As more and more windows include a heat reflective low-emissivity (Low-E) surface inside the unit, these become irreparable once moisture oxidizes the material, leaving a discolored, moldy appearance inside the unit. Even without a Low-E surface, the water staining that occurs from condensing and evaporating over and over leaves a hazy film on the glass that cannot ever be cleaned to perfection.
