The biggest joke the Navy ever forced upon sailors on the USS Butte, USS Nitro, USS Suribachi, USS Seattle and USS Detroit. The so-called "BASE" in no shape whatsoever served the needs of the ships homeported there. A Navy exchange that is more like a gas station convenience store that offered no uniform items. Most bases have a massive store. NOT EARLE!! a bowling alley, a gym and an officer/enlisted club called the Gundeck and that's it. Next to no parking. And don't leave the base in uniform. You are taking your life into your hands if you do. The Police do not like the military at all and they will send several cars if you are stopped and threaten you at baton point. They will call for a K-9 unit and check your vehicle hoping to find drugs. Personally happened to me and i was in uniform. Do not go to Keansburg. They do not like the military AT ALL. You will get assaulted there ESPECIALLY if you are in uniform. Expect to see "Sailor Go Home!' signs adorning a lot of the yards in the area. The only saving grace is NYC being about an hour away. Otherwise there is nothing to do there. The Base will throw your bike away even though you locked it. My ship left for deployment and when we got back all of our bikes were discovered to have been thrown in the trash truck. How's that for being treated great huh? Earle should be closed and anyone who was stationed there deserves to compensated. Oh and there is no way to get to Mainside from the pierside. They won't even let your drive/bike the road between the areas.

Great place to visit if you like trains. Johnny J’s has a killer chicken philly sandwich.

You can, google DEERS office locations. It's on the harbor side of base.
Honestly there's no reason to go to Earle, there is nothing there unless you have business there. Yes it is true
That's fine but I am a Former service member. I haven't been in the reserves for about 13 years.
Usually Yes, just have to go through the vetting process and they will approve or deny you entrance.
Any where in the base
Must be Military AD, Reserve, or retired, or DOD civilian. Must have permission from the installation and a hunting badge
Yea over at the mwr if your active dudty or did civilian and contractor
DOD is not affected by the shutdown. However, there may be some non-DOD workers who may need help.
Can army retired come aboard the base
No, it does have a very small NEX but not much more than a snack shop.
