Was there recently to buy some house plants and planters but felt unwelcome. Staff were rude especially the cashier lady that checked me out. She double charged me for an item and slammed my things on the counter when I told her I didn't want it bagged. The customer service staff was just as rude when I went and notify her of the double charge.

The only downside of coming to Gertens is I always over spend and buy more than I needed 😅

BIG pumpkins ($14) and normal size available in abundance along with white & warty, Grey & mini ones. Even pie pumpkins. $2-$14 each.
Shirley they do not accept flower pots or recycling as of last year, or maybe even two years ago. People did not properly clean and prepare the pots, they could have any medal or dirt in them people were not doing the right thing..
Gertens usually has Hardy Water Lilies
Lotus, Water Lettuce, Oxygenators, Iris, Mini Egyptian Papyrus, Dwarf Cattails, Rushes (multiple varieties), Zephyr Lilies, Parrots Feather, and more... .
I like to leave mine for winter interest then cut them back to about a third their height in the Spring. Sometimes I'll go a bit shorter as long as I don't disturb any new growth coming up.
I was told that if you don't cut back the grass I have it will go to seed and it would damage, maybe even kill the plant. I'm guessing it's a hybrid thing and not sure if it's the same for all grasses, but I haven't noticed anyone else who hasn't cut theirs back.
If you call in your order, the you can go to the curbside pickup tent and they come to you car and get the order number from you and then grab it and bring it to your car and load you up and you are on your way.
Might be a question for a Master Gardener, which I am (just inactive at the moment). If you're referring to the house plant known as a Peace Lily, yes you can repot in September.
What tomatoes do you have?

I do not know. Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful.
My daughter purchased a bird bath and base which were on sale and displayed in same space. However when she got them home the didn’t fit together. You wouldn’t refund the money because they were on sale - still $60. Poor customer service

It's really the after care you need to worry about. As long as there are no chemicals on the ground beforehand. Make the ground is clean and grated. Maybe a little roughed up to make sure you have good contact with previous dirt. But the after care is the the hardest part.
do you have pink quarts rock thanks

Lena Wallin | Oct 30, 2020
Gertens | Oct 30, 2020
We have several wheelchairs available for use. We do not have electric carts. Many customer who have electric carts do bring them with them when they visit us.
I have a water wiggler for my birdbath . it doesn't seem to be charging (solar) . can i just get a new battery at batteries + order I have to get a setup from gertens or ?
M Bohunko | Oct 30, 2020
Gertens | Oct 30, 2020
As long as there is no apparent damage to the wiggler, getting a replacement battery from Batteries+ (or elsewhere) would be recommended.
Our first batch have indeed sold out, but our greenhouse will be moving more to the store within the next week or so. Please check back on the website to see when they are back in stock. We will be restocking them throughout the summer. Thanks!
Are ther any Begonia shade 14" planters left? I have two empty 14" pots from last year and would gladl have you plant them since your website says Sold Out for the 14" pots. I also have 2 white hanging baskets I would like to fill w/begonias.

I don't know about the planters, but they had some beautiful begonias last weekend when I went. I buy the smaller plants to put in my own planters.
Do you carry Bougainvillea hanging baskets?

I'm fairly certain I saw some here this past weekens
Gertens does not do in home or on site design. You're more than welcome to bring in drawings and photos and speak with the staff for tips and coaching. Also check out our seminars.
Our last frost date is typically May 15. Cold tolerant plants like pansies and lettuces can be planted in April, but warm lovers like basil and tomatoes should wait until the nights are in the 50s...usually mid to late May. It all really depends on what you are planting, and where. Plants close to the house (foundation plantings) stay warmer and can be planted earlier than those in unprotected places. There's a lot that goes into it. Best bet is to go to Gertens and talk to them about your specific situation.
A blueberry juniper is nice for privacy and lots more resilient to the cold. Any mild burn to tips can easily be clipped. Ours took about 7 years to grow to mature size. Keep their full size in mind when planning. Birds love them for nesting too!
Do you sell 2-3 year old potted blueberry bushes that are Minnesota -hardy?
Colleen Coghlan | Oct 31, 2019
Tama Ellsworth | Oct 31, 2019
I'd call them!!! They have the best potted bushes. I've bought 3 everbearing raspberries bushes. And they have self planted themself. I've bought 2 redwood dogwood stickwood bushes and they are full grown 3 years old. I've bought 3 rhubarb. I also bought 3 blue switchgrasses and 3 red switchgrasses. I buy every thing from Gertins.I will purchase more bushes in the spring I never thought to ask how old the bushes were when buying.
Just know one thing you can't go wrong buying from them. They guarantee your. bushes for 2 years. Need to keep receipt.
If you go to the website you can search the current inventory. If you don't see what you are looking for call ahead. They are super friendly and always have great advice.
My friend and I were at Gertens today and purchased two Twist-n-Shout hydrangeas (per employee). We mentioned that the area was full sun and would be surrounded by river rock (unfortunately not mulch). How do we fertilize?
D.L. Baker | Oct 31, 2018
Kyle Manley | Oct 31, 2018
Probably good for this year as they were already fertalized. You can do a slow release fertelizer granular in the spring they sell. If you want varied colors in the hydrangeas you can add things to the soil as well that they sell. My hydramgeas can be white, hot pink, or blue. I have the boom stick.
U of M says to pick them off early in the season. They release pharemones that attract more when they find somethong tasty. They found the bags actually attract more and cause more issues for you and surrounding houses.
Probably not enough sun, also try using a general liquid fertelizer they sell every two weeks. Sun is they key ingredient, at least 6 hours. Also its better to underwater than overwater them. If theybare in a pot feel for watwr weoght and wait until the soil drys. Also if its in a container make sure to use fresh potting soil.
Oopsy, I don't have a perennial called 'Hillside Black Beauty Cimifuge, however, I've had several questions about other annuals and perennials and have found Gertens staff VERY helpful and well-informed. I'd recommend visiting them or giving them a call. Yep, I've also called and have gotten some professional and helpful advice. Excellent service, they'll even print out a list of a specific plant or category you're looking for. They did that for me when I was looking to build a Monarch Butterfly Way Station! Success :)
That's not what the ask the community question section is for. It's for asking other people about their experiences at places and things like that. I would imagine the quickest and easiest way to find out would probably be to call them and ask....
Yes, I know you can find it in the annuals greenhouse this week, and after that , check in the main store in an area called the South End. Ask at the customer service desk, or call first, to confirm
They do carry things like that. I have bought many decorative stones/rocks as gifts. Definitely worth calling the store or stopping by for a look. There is a gift/home boutique, an indoor decorative garden section, and then there is an extensive inventory of larger garden pieces outside by the tropical building. :)
