My family member resides in memory assisted living, he's received the best and most professional care! They've even gotten him to participate in activities

Well..my Mom has been there one day and so far we are not too pleased. I was there for about 3 hours with her today and she was still in her pajamas at 11:00am. When I pressed the button for help it was about 45 minute before anyone came.. and it's only because I flagged someone down that was in the hall. The aide that came to help her change was wonderful.. but that's where it ended. She's there for therapy after COPD flair. It only gets worse from here. I can't even imagine treating another human being the way she has been treated. (Will not go into details but she's not being treated with very much dignity) We are investigating other facilities as we speak. So disappointed the way our Mother is being treated. They should be ashamed of themselves. EDIT: After talking with the head nurse some of these issues have been resolved. The staff has been pretty good... but like most places like Altenheim they are short staffed. Not my problem... Perhaps if these places paid a little more... the employees would stick around a little longer.... But these places are pretty much all alike... So sad the way we treat our seniors...

Case of Legionaires disease. Patients were. Not informed until several days after the incident occurred . They were just told that they were not allowed to use the water because it was being tested.

Mom was only at the Altenheim Memory Care facility for a few months, but it was obvious from the start how much the staff really cares for all the residents. The moment she arrived plenty of caretakers flocked to her room to welcome all of us to the facility. Mom was not a very sociable person and dementia made it more difficult. The staff always encouraged her to participate and she did enjoy the visits from the therapy dogs. Once Mom started to decline, we made the difficult decision to call in hospice. The staff at Memory Care worked very well with hospice and together they met all of Mom’s needs until the end. The staff at Altenheim Memory Care were supportive of our family once Mom did pass and even though we only knew them a few months, it was obvious how much they cared for Mom. I would recommend this facility for anyone wishing to give their loved one the best care possible for dementia.

Questions & Answers

do you have/need a therapy dog come to visit the residents?. I am very interested in volunteering for this.

Hello Antonetta! No you do not need a therapy dog to volunteer. It's a beautiful place and we love volunteers. Sad to say, but many older persons do not have family to visit them. If you do not have a lot of time please consider volunteering around the holidays as they are the most difficult for the residents. Best wishes!

How many aides do you have to care for patients needs during the night? How long might a person wait before an aide comes to help with a bed pan , either to be put on the bed pan or taken off the bed pan .

We usually staff 2 aides at night with one nurse on each unit. I do not work nights, but it is much slower paced for staff. Within a few minutes an aide will be able to assist the resident. We have alerts in the hallway and at the desk when help is needed. Rounds are also done by aides and nurse to visually assess the residents throughout the night. We have 6 units all together. I hope it helps.
