I am the patient. I was on service with Avalon for TWO YEARS. I don't recommend this hospice. We consistently had issues and I hesitated to change because change is hard on me. However, a very bad experience changed everything. Getting supplies was a major problem. They limit the quantity you can get each week and then they either don't order them timely, or they don't bring them to you, or they order the wrong item or size. I had to order my own supplies many times because I can't just go without. Turnover is a big problem. I probably had 20 different nurses in 2 years. Some were good, some were...Not. The good ones never stay very long. I witnessed one nurse pull her mask down so she could LICK her fingers to thumb through paperwork. And I later found out she was unvaccinated, and that is the one and only time I asked to have a different nurse. The last straw was when the office manager and a nurse came to my home to do a procedure. Very unprofessional. They showed up without any of the supplies they needed to do this procedure, and therefore had to ask my caregiver for items they should've had if they were prepared. They then proceeded to criticize the quality of the gloves we gave them. Guess where we got the gloves from? Avalon! They then tried to do the procedure, but they couldn't get it done. The procedure was to change out my feeding tube. The office manager really showed callous and extremely poor judgment. She actually told my mil that "the doctor didn't expect her to live this long." HOW DARE SHE. At a different point in the conversation she mentioned that feeding tubes can get mold in them, but that mine didn't have any. Yet again, she turns to my mil and says it actually does have some mold in it. I just could not believe how ridiculous and unprofessional and straight up RUDE they were to me, their terminal patient, in my own home. The only good thing I can say about Avalon hospice is that they have a great social worker, Sara. I doubt they pay her enough to put up with these fools and I don't know why she stays, but she was awesome! I changed to a different hospice and it has been wonderful. A totally different experience! So if you need hospice, interview them. And switch if you don't like them. Medicare pays them good money to take care of you. Make sure they do it.

My mother was helped by the Hendersonville hospice staff for over 4 years. In that time each staff member gave my mother and her family members total professional help. In addition they gave us all tremendous emotional support. It was an extremely rough road not only for our mother but for those of us who loved her. Hospice helped us each step of the way. I would recommend this staff to anyone searching for a group of people who honestly care about their job and the people they serve.
