A Three Ring Circus Mess! I went to Hampstead Pre-Owned to purchase a car before Labor Day Weekend. After being given incorrect information over the phone that a car was available, we arrived and nobody who worked there knew that it had been sold. Nevertheless we chose another car and began to consider it. We left to think it over and then tried calling back. Every person who took our numerous calls got us mixed up with another buyer and automobile. One man even accepted our offer of $1000 less but when we drove back to purchase the car, nobody took responsibility for the phone interaction. We then stayed until 9 p.m. that night taking care of the paperwork and signing all the documents to purchase the car at their listing price. The car had not been serviced yet so we made a pre-sale inspection and made requests for items to be fixed. The very next day, several different people called to say the car was already ready to pick up. I tried to explain that there was no way those things could have been done so quickly but was assured that even a rust bubble (requiring body work) was done. I drove an hour and a half after work to arrive and have the car brought to us with none of the work done. Apologies were made and an offer to drive out to our home, deliver a loaner car, and pick up the car for the repairs. Shockingly, I was told that the initial extensive papers I signed for the loans and purchase disappeared overnight and I had to resign everything. It has been two months and I still am calling every week to find out when the car will be fit in to the schedule. Every time I talk to anyone working there and express my frustration at the level of incompetence, everyone agrees that the "place is a mess" right now. The sales manager, Tony, had repeatedly told me he was on the other line and would call me back only to never call me back.

Hand Sanitizer was available and signage said masks are required, but mask wearing was pretty casual. I would say about half of the staff were wearing them incorrectly and often didn't put them back on from coming inside. I saw several customers not wearing masks and no one asked them to. I am fully vaccinated and had a otherwise good experience with purchasing a car, but I was disappointed in their covid procedures. I think it does have something to do with their geographical location, they may actually be quite good for the area.
Hampstead Preowned Used Cars looked like they were taking the recommended precautions against the virus. I saw them cleaning desk, social distancing and everyone was wearing a masked. Probably safe as anywhere now!
